I spend about half of my life these days on the road (or in the air). Some people may prefer to cut down and try to squeeze their life into a carry-on, but this is my existence and I want to enjoy what I have at home on the road. Here's my travel musts...
My Apples. I have been touting the fact that I'm a PC gal for many years, but I couldn't live without my IPhone and now my IPad. Boingo helps me stay pretty well connected around the world, but there are times when there is just no WiFi available anywhere around me. Enter the IPhone and IPad with 3G, and I can still work. And make sure you get a cover that converts to a stand for your IPad. They are inexpensive
and so worth it.
Even with the above gadgets, I still need a laptop to keep the workflow (which includes thousands of photos and files) going. I made the mistake of skimping on my last laptop purchase -- and I won't give the current brand any publicity by mentioning them -- but the next one is going to be the one that represented the previous three -- Sony Vaio. When it comes to performance and clarity, the Vaio can't be beat.

An order from Minimus. I can't say enough about this company. I've been ordering from them for years for everything from little boxes of Special K to Tylenol to Woolite. They have just a $20 minimum for free shipping anywhere in the U.S. I often order a box full of stuff (and you can't believe how much you can get for $20) and have it delivered straight to my hotel. I don't have to go running around to pick up all my travel size supplies and then lug it with me. Check them out.
There are some things I can't get at Minimus, but I can almost always find them (at great prices) at Ulta. Ulta is kind of a discount Sephora, offering prestige cosmetics and makeup as well as everyday brands. I'm a fan of St. Ives and L'Oreal, and they are available at Ulta online along with my favorite makeup from Bare Esencentuals and Benefit.
After years of using the Olympus Sports Zoom, which covered my every need, it was time to say goodbye as the camera
died on me. I spent weeks looking for a camera that took great pictures, wasn't too heavy, and used AA batteries (it's much easier and cheaper to get a hold of batteries than worrying about the rechargeable one dying on you). I settled on The Fuji Fine Pix and I'm glad I did.
No matter how much information I have from the tourism board I am visiting, there's something to be said for unbiased opinions. I count on Fodor's for that. I had it downloaded on my IPhone before I even left for Australia and referred to it frequently.
